Blessed Bienen

Breathing new life into Bienen-Davis handbags, Richard K. Bienen launched a holy capsule handbag collection perfectly suited for the Met’s Costume Institute’s latest exhibition, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Inspired by Our Lady of Guadalupe, adorned with more than 4,000 Swarovski crystals, and accessorized with Rhodoid crosses, the team divinely delivered three signature styles: The Régine minaudière, the classic Kit, and the 4 AM clasp bag. Since the label’s founding in the 1930s, they’ve appeared in numerous magazines, newspapers and on the New York nightlife scene (the bags were inspired by the likes of disco-era Anjelica Huston, Margaux Hemingway, and Jerry Hall). The clutches, wristlets, and convertible shoulder bags have been rendered in teal, apricot, and bois de rose satin and velvet and feature delicate, lingerie-like linings—that is, until now.
